MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) strategy uses MACD indicator to identify trend changes and momentum. MACD consists of fast line (MACD line), slow line (signal line) and histogram. Traders use MACD-signal line crossovers, zero line crossovers and divergence signals to trade.
MACD crossover: MACD line crossing above signal line bullish, below bearish
Zero line crossover: MACD line crossing zero line confirms trend
Histogram: Shows difference between MACD and signal lines
Divergence: MACD-price divergence signals reversal
Trend confirmation: MACD can confirm trend direction and strength
MACD strategy applies to all markets and timeframes, widely used in forex trading. The strategy works best in trending markets, can capture trend beginnings and endings. Daily and 4-hour charts are most commonly used timeframes.
Can simultaneously show trend and momentum; signals relatively reliable; applicable to various market environments; can identify divergence; historically high success rate.
As lagging indicator may miss optimal entry points; generates false signals in ranging markets; needs combination with other tools for confirmation; fixed parameters not flexible enough; signals may be delayed.
When using MACD strategy, note: wait for signal confirmation before entering; combine with price action for verification; watch reliability of divergence signals; use cautiously in ranging markets; set reasonable stops; don't rely too heavily on single indicator; use multiple timeframes for confirmation; watch for false signals.
