Gator Oscillator is companion tool to Alligator Indicator, developed by Bill Williams, showing relationship between three Alligator lines. Gator displays as histogram in separate window, helping traders more clearly identify trend formation, development, and decline phases.
Upper Histogram = |Jaw - Teeth| Lower Histogram = |Teeth - Lips| Where: Jaw = 13-period SMMA, shifted 8 bars Teeth = 8-period SMMA, shifted 5 bars Lips = 5-period SMMA, shifted 3 bars Histogram color: Green: Current bar > Previous bar (expanding) Red: Current bar < Previous bar (contracting)
Standard Gator: Used with standard Alligator Indicator
Gator Phases: Sleeping, Awakening, Eating, Satisfied
Gator Patterns: Expanding, Contracting, Symmetric, Asymmetric
Both Sides Red: Alligator sleeping, market consolidating, avoid trading
One Side Turns Green: Alligator awakening, trend may start, prepare to enter
Both Sides Green: Alligator eating, strong trend, trade with trend
One Side Turns Red: Alligator getting satisfied, trend may weaken, consider taking profits
Both Sides Turn Red: Alligator satisfied, trend ending, exit trades
Histogram Expanding: Trend accelerating
Histogram Contracting: Trend decelerating

When one side turns green, trend starting to form; prepare to enter. When both sides green, strong trend; trade with trend. When one side turns red, trend starting to weaken; consider taking profits. Gator helps traders identify optimal entry and exit timing.
Clearly displays trend phases, perfectly complements Alligator Indicator, visually intuitive, helps identify optimal trading timing, part of complete trading system
Must be used with Alligator Indicator, steep learning curve, significant lag, may not respond quickly in fast markets
